Stainless Steel Pipe and Porous Rhyolite Stone
Height 8.5m
Yokohama Business Park, Nomura Real Estate Development
Chained Rock (1990) is a work with stainless steel pipe wrapped around a porous rhyolite stone, then extended up into the sky. It positions itself with respect to the galaxy, the solar system, sun, earth, and moon, posing a question to the land and sea, the air and water, the plants, and animals, and to the location of the earth that birthed our ancestors, and their origins. It is a question to that boulder in Madras: Where did we come from, and where are we going?
